Barn Owl

This photograph is wonderful!

Vision - This photo is beautifully executed. It thoughtfully displays the owl and its markings and the techniques used all help to emphasise this.

Originality - The only reason I gave this photograph slightly less for originality is because it's not the only 'portraite-esque' head shot of an owl. It is a tried and tested style which, when done like this, is a reliable method for a good photograph.

Technique - The focus is pin sharp and on the owl's eyes; the most important area of the photograph. With the majority of the face occupying the cetral third of the frame it draws the viewer's attention straight in. The shallow depth of field adds a wonderful artistic flair and again helps to focus the attention onto the lovely heart shaped face of the Barn Owl. Having the background defocussed means that it doesn't distract from the main subject but adds a nice contrast of colour. Perfectly done!

Impact - All of these techniques combine to make you go 'WOW!'. It's not too often that I feel the need to give detailed feedback on an image but this one made me have to say something. I love it!
