Waxwings are among my favourite passerine birds so I automatically love this photo. An awesome catch, indeed.
Generally, this is a very good photograph, with only little flaws. Technical stuff like exposure and contrast are not even worth mentioning as they are perfect. The colors are simply beautiful - with dominant soft grey hues and red tones in between, which seem nicely saturated and natural in the same time. The background marvelously suits and complement all that with its similar hues. Finally, the excellent composition completes the artistry of the image. Choosing the square ratio for this photo was a sound decision.
I could say a bit about focus and sharpness. The berries in the bottom look blurry, like they are blown by the wind. However, the bird itself is much clearer and very well focused, although I have the feeling the clearest area is slightly shifted from the eye towards the wings. This is a minor issue since it's hardly visible.
Most passerine birds are known for being very active - they never stay on the same place for long. Something in the posture and look of this waxwing gives me the feeling it is just about to fly away with its berry, and this fills the picture with a subtle anticipation. It leaves the impression of a perfectly timed shutter.

He looks almost triumphant over that berry. "Haha! I got one!"
BTW, the quality of this picture is really brilliant. Waxwings are so smooth-looking. It's really cool to be able to see all the little textures in their feathers.
